Murkmire Manor

Murkmire Manor is the ancestral estate of the LIST Family and the TOES Family, located near the town of Grindle-On-Murk. Between the manor and the town lies bog and marshland, where the fog rolls in thick and low and never quite behaves like normal weather.

West of Grindle-On-Murk balanced between the freshwater bog and the restless ocean marshlands, stands Murkmire Manor, a structure that has long since given up pretending to be ordinary. Once the home of the Bland sisters, the estate shifted when two of them married into the List and Toes families, pulling the Manor into Spiral traditions and quiet rivalries that now thread through three generations. The building seems aware of this arrangement and has adjusted itself accordingly, expanding and settling in ways that sometimes feel intentional.

The Manor sprawls out in every direction like a grand experiment—wooden halls shifting slightly with age, windows fogging as though sighing at the weather, floors creaking in tones suspiciously close to commentary. Fog drifts across the grounds in soft sheets, curling around hedges and clinging to the glass-paneled wings without asking permission. Some of those glass wings host botanical domains with personalities of their own. The Cypress Conservatory remains charmingly overgrown, its mossy benches and pond collecting more stories than anyone admits. Not far from it, Natura’s Botanical Sanctum hums with orchids and bees, perpetually warm as though the space keeps its own private season. Other stretches of greenhouses glass brood over soil that remembers more than it should.

Down a specific garden paths lies the Thorn Garden, affectionately tended, and frequently weaponized, by the Poison Twins. Deeper inside the house, other specialized spaces have claimed their own moods. The Natatorium, once an indoor swimming pool, has surrendered completely to Vita’s damp, living research: mosses, fungi, and half-glowing experiments turn the old tiles into a murmuring ecosystem. On the Toes side of the house, Gus’s Experimentorium fizzes and hums in his suite: a domed chamber of planetary models, alchemical scribbles, gurgling concoctions, and theories flung at the ceiling like confetti to see what sticks.

Far below the polished floors and fog-softened windows stretch the caverns carved into stone and shadow where Uncle Grot feels most at home, working among stalagmites and lantern light. Aboveground, the stone bridges, hedges, and winding paths all seem to rearrange themselves just enough to keep visitors slightly uncertain, but never quite lost.

Inside, the Manor’s rooms are no less opinionated. The Zen Room glows with a fire that crackles more gently than physics should allow. Ve’s weaving room hums with threads that sincerely believe they know better than she does. The Solarium of Quiet Hours holds rain-softened light and patient glass, as if it collects secrets in the reflections. The blue linen closet, overrun by herbs, schemes, and glowbugs, has quietly stopped pretending it’s about linens at all. Rea’s old bedroom remains exactly as she left it—bees on the wallpaper, a frog snow globe on the shelf—as if time itself agreed to hold its breath until she walked back through the door.

Murkmire Manor is more than a residence. It is a living archive of choices, mishaps, whispered arguments, secret gardens, experimental rooms, and doorways that behave differently depending on who opens them. Fog curls lovingly at its foundations. Memories collect in its beams. And though the Families insist the Manor belongs to them… the Manor seems quietly convinced it’s the other way around.
